RFID tracks the whole process of brewing Bourbon



 

   Wild Turkey whiskey uses UHF RFID to monitor the brewing process of its three storage warehouses, which reduces the time spent counting 650,000 barrels of whiskey and avoids some mistakes.

 

   Wild Turkey winemaker Eddie Russell said the company used manual procedures to track every barrel of wine in three warehouses in 29 buildings. Companies need to track which barrels are filled and when they are filled, and then manage batches based on these dates. He said: "Before we started (using) RFID, we read each barrel of wine according to the date code." This means moving around the barrels, looking at the code printed on each barrel. Know which bucket is full and when it is full. He recalled that this was a difficult and time-consuming task. Russell said that sometimes "this can be confusing because there are many different date codes in each repository.

   RFID tracking technology provides digital tracking of the brewing process. First, a passive UHF RFID tag is attached to the barrel, and the tag is scanned with the UHF handheld. The unique ID number of the tag is read and input into the internal software of Wild Turkey.

 

   The RFID system avoids the need to manually inventory inventory. The person in charge of the company said: “The cost of counting one bucket at a time is very expensive and time consuming. In addition, when employees use pen and paper to manually inventory inventory, mistakes often occur.” Today, the company has an automatic record for each storage point.
